Best short drama apps compared by ratings, free episodes and prices. Only one of 13 apps publishes a coin price per episode; here is what the rest show.

Thirteen apps, one published price per episode. With the short drama apps compared on their own websites, only ReelShort says what a locked episode costs. So the real decision is which app lets you see the paywall before you pay, not which one has the best poster.

TL;DR: ReelShort is the only app of the 13 that prints a per-episode price (60 coins, 500 coins for $4.99). ReelShort, NetShort and FlexTV drama pages show where the free episodes end; DramaBox, ShortMax and GoodShort pages do not. DramaBox has the most App Store ratings (879,659), GoodShort the highest average (4.9). Checked Oct 18, 2026.

As of Oct 18, 2026: episode counts, ratings and prices as the apps and stores listed them that day. Apps change all three; we recheck and log changes below.

Verdict: Use ReelShort if you want to know the cost before you start. Use NetShort if you only watch free episodes and want to see where they end. Skip DramaBox until it publishes a price, unless a drama you want is only there.

Short drama apps compared: the quick answer

Short drama apps compared on what you can check before you pay: ReelShort publishes the most, with a coin guide and a free count on every drama page we opened. NetShort and FlexTV show the free count but no price. DramaBox, ShortMax and GoodShort show neither. Ratings do not separate them much: all 13 App Store averages sit between 4.49 and 4.9.

Key Takeaways

  • One price list: ReelShort's coin guide says a standard episode "usually costs 60 coins", and 500 coins cost $4.99.
  • Free episodes are short: the median was 8 free episodes on 19 ReelShort chart titles and 9 on 260 NetShort titles.
  • Ratings: DramaBox leads on volume (879,659 App Store ratings), GoodShort on average (4.9).
  • Five apps are 17+ on the US App Store: DramaBox, ShortMax, VibeShort, My Drama, MoboReels.
  • Money: ReelShort grossed about $1.2 billion in 2025, DramaBox $276 million (Appfigures, via TechCrunch).

Overview: 13 apps on one table

We pulled each app's US App Store record that day: average rating, number of ratings, age rating and the seller name the store shows. FreeReels did not come back in the US App Store search, so it appears only with its Google Play numbers further down. The full comparison, with Google Play and in-app prices, lives on our apps page.

Star averages this high do not help much. The spread from FlexTV to GoodShort is 0.41 of a star. The number of ratings tells you more about reach than the average does.

What each app tells you before you pay

This is the part the store listings skip. We read each app's website for two things: does the drama page say where the free episodes end, and does the app publish what a locked episode costs?

Table of six short drama apps showing whether each publishes a free-episode count, a coin price per episode, its App Store age rating and what its terms say about bots Table: ShortDramaDesk, from the apps' drama pages, coin guides and terms, and the App Store, Oct 18.

  • ReelShort prints "Premium episodes begin at episode N" in the FAQ of each drama page, and its coin guide gives a price: "Once the paywall appears, a standard episode usually costs 60 coins."
  • NetShort marks each episode as locked or not on its episode pages, but publishes no coin price.
  • FlexTV drama pages show a free count; no price.
  • DramaBox, ShortMax, GoodShort: the drama pages we read printed neither. That is why their titles on our site stay off search engines until we can show a number.

There is one more column worth reading. ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax and FlexTV forbid automated access in their terms, so we check their pages by hand, one at a time. NetShort's agreement has no such clause, so our drama finder carries its whole chart.

Free episodes: what the drama pages actually show

ReelShort's coin guide says "Typically, the first 8 to 13 episodes of most series are completely free to watch." We counted.

Histogram of free episodes per drama on ReelShort, NetShort and FlexTV, with medians of 8, 9 and 8.5 Chart: ShortDramaDesk, from each app's own drama pages, Oct 18.

On 19 ReelShort chart titles with a published paywall, free episodes ran from 1 to 16, median 8. On 260 NetShort chart titles, 3 to 15, median 9. FlexTV's 12 hand-checked titles ran 5 to 10.

Desk note: Only 8 of the 19 ReelShort titles fall inside the coin guide's "8 to 13" range. Another 8 give fewer than 8 free episodes, and one gives just 1. Check the drama page, not the guide.

Free count is the one number you can use on every app that shows it. Our most free episodes list sorts the whole catalog by it.

Prices: what the App Store listings sell

The App Store "In-App Purchases" section is the only price list nearly every app has: PineDrama's listing shows none, and FreeReels did not come up in the US App Store search. It lists items, not what an item buys, so it cannot tell you a cost per episode. It does show how high the spending goes.

Bar chart of the lowest and highest in-app purchase price on twelve short drama apps' App Store listings, topping out at $49.99 on FlexTV and MoboReels Chart: ShortDramaDesk, from the App Store listings, Oct 18.

  • ReelShort: six one-time purchases from $4.99 to $29.99, plus a $19.99 "Subscription".
  • DramaBox: "Membership" at $5.99, $17.99 and $19.99; "Special offer" at $4.99, $9.99 and $19.99.
  • ShortMax: "Weekly Pass Pro" at $9.99 and $19.99; one-time purchases from $3.49 to $24.99.
  • GoodShort: coin packs from 500 coins for $4.99 to 2500 coins for $24.99; "Weekly VIP" from $5.99 to $19.99.
  • NetShort: "Weekly VIP" from $5.99 to $29.99; one-time purchases at $9.99 and $19.99.
  • FlexTV: one-time purchases from $4.99 to $29.99, "Weekly VIP" $29.99, "Monthly VIP" $49.99.

On these six lists, weekly passes run from $5.99 to $29.99 a week. A pass is a promise of more episodes, not a price per episode.

App by app

ReelShort: the one with a price list

App Store 4.69 from 510,050 ratings, 12+. Google Play 3.8 from 1.94M reviews, 100M+ installs. Coin packs per its guide: $4.99 for 500 coins, $9.99 for 1,000 plus 150 bonus, $14.99 for 1,500 plus 300, $29.99 for 3,000 plus 750. "Paid coins never expire," the guide says; free reward coins "usually come with a time limit". A daily check-in earns up to 165 coins and ads up to 175, per ReelShort's own free-coins page. What finishing a drama costs is in the cost guide listed under More App Guides below.

DramaBox: the most ratings, no price

App Store 4.75 from 879,659 ratings, 17+, advisory "Frequent/Intense Mature/Suggestive Themes". Google Play 4.6 from 5.58M reviews, 100M+ installs. Its about page says it reaches "over 200 countries and regions, featuring more than 2,000 series" (as of December 2024). We found no official page with a free count or coin price, which is the whole story of the head-to-head below.

ShortMax

App Store 4.62 from 179,424 ratings, 17+. Google Play 4.4 from 2.13M reviews. Sells a "Weekly Pass Pro". Its terms forbid "any automatic software such as robotic software, spider software and crawler software".

GoodShort

App Store 4.9 from 531,959 ratings, the highest average here, 12+. Google Play 4.7 from 4.51M reviews, 50M+ installs. Its in-app purchases name coin amounts (500 coins for $4.99), but nothing says how many coins an episode takes.

NetShort

App Store 4.74 from 226,346 ratings, 12+. Google Play 4.7 from 2.02M reviews, 100M+ installs. Its public chart and episode pages are the backbone of our catalog: 497 titles, 260 with a free count.

FlexTV, DramaWave, FreeReels and PineDrama

FlexTV: App Store 4.49 from 7,457 ratings, the smallest count here; Google Play 4.5. DramaWave: App Store 4.86 from 189,997 ratings. FreeReels: Google Play 4.7 from 1.99M reviews, 100M+ installs, not in the US App Store search. PineDrama is TikTok's standalone microdrama app, per TechCrunch: 4.87 from 74,108 ratings, seller TIKTOK PTE. LTD.

VibeShort, StardustTV, FlickReels, My Drama, MoboReels

VibeShort's listing says "Discover AI-generated tales with cinematic visuals"; StardustTV's says "Original Dramas Powered by AI". Both come up again in our AI explainer (Related Reading). My Drama (Holy Water Limited) and MoboReels are both 17+; MoboReels' terms put it bluntly: "Don't scrape MoboReels."

Who earns the most

Spending estimates come from trackers, not the apps. TechCrunch, citing Appfigures, put ReelShort at "roughly $1.2 billion in gross consumer spending in 2025, up 119% from 2024", and DramaBox at $276 million. Sensor Tower counted in-app purchases only: $130 million for ReelShort and $120 million for DramaBox in Q1 2025.

Those are store estimates. Sensor Tower's own note says they exclude ad revenue and "direct payments made via official brand websites". Treat them as a size guide, not a ledger.

What viewers say

Price is the complaint that comes up again and again in the newest App Store reviews.

  • A DramaBox reviewer, Oct 16, one star: "Great story line, Great everything except for the price. It’s not worth paying $19.99 “Per Week”" (App Store).
  • A ReelShort reviewer, Oct 15, one star: "Each episode jumps and feels like it skips parts of the series only to be hit with a pay wall like all the rest." (App Store)
  • On r/ShortDramas, April 2026: "I watched it several times, but the numerous ads on DramaBox took up too much of my time. However, the ending was truly satisfying" (Reddit).

Three viewers, two apps, one theme: the story hooks, then the bill arrives.

Analysis: which app for which viewer

  1. You want the price before you start: ReelShort. It is the only app here with a published coin price, so our cost calculator can work out a total.
  2. You only watch free episodes: NetShort or ReelShort. Both show where the free part ends; NetShort's median was 9.
  3. You want the biggest library by reach: DramaBox has the most App Store ratings, but plan on finding its prices inside the app.
  4. You are under 17 or share the phone: stick to the apps rated 12+, and check the drama, since 12+ apps still list mature titles.
  5. You want AI-made dramas, or want to avoid them: VibeShort says it makes them; ReelShort labels them one title at a time on our AI-made list.

Our take

Start with ReelShort: it is the only app that tells you the price before the paywall. Its coin guide gives 60 coins an episode, and its drama pages say where the free part ends. NetShort is the better pick for free-only viewing, with a median of 9 free episodes. If DramaBox or ShortMax publish a coin price, this changes; we recheck every 30 days.

What we don't know yet

  • DramaBox, ShortMax and GoodShort coins per episode: not published on their websites.
  • How many episodes a weekly pass covers on each app: the listings name the pass, not the limit.
  • Google Play in-app prices: the store did not show them in the copy we read.

How we checked this

On Oct 18, 2026 we pulled each app's US App Store record through Apple's iTunes Lookup API, read each Google Play listing and the "In-App Purchases" section of each App Store page, and opened each app's terms of service. ReelShort's coin guide and free-coins page were opened by hand. Free counts come from the apps' own drama pages: NetShort by our import script, the others by hand. We did not buy coins or passes on any app.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which short drama app is the cheapest? Nobody can say for every app, because only ReelShort publishes a price per episode: 60 coins, with 500 coins for $4.99 in its coin guide. On that basis the 13 ReelShort chart dramas we priced (Mature titles left out) cost $14.97 to $39.96 to finish. DramaBox, ShortMax and GoodShort do not print a per-episode price on their websites.

Are short drama apps free? Free to download, not free to finish. ReelShort's own guide says the first 8 to 13 episodes of most series are free. On the drama pages we read, the median was 8 free episodes on ReelShort and 9 on NetShort. After that, episodes are locked behind coins, ads or a pass.

Which short drama app has the best rating? On the US App Store on Oct 18, GoodShort had the highest average at 4.9 from 531,959 ratings, and DramaBox had the most ratings, 879,659 at 4.75. On Google Play, ReelShort stood at 3.8, the lowest of the big apps we checked.

Is ReelShort or DramaBox bigger? By spending estimates, ReelShort. TechCrunch, citing Appfigures, put ReelShort at about $1.2 billion in gross consumer spending in 2025 and DramaBox at $276 million. DramaBox had more App Store ratings: 879,659 against ReelShort's 510,050 on Oct 18.

Which short drama apps are rated 17+? Five of the 13 apps on the US App Store were rated 17+ on Oct 18: DramaBox, ShortMax, VibeShort, My Drama and MoboReels. ReelShort, GoodShort, NetShort, DramaWave, PineDrama, StardustTV, FlickReels and FlexTV were 12+.

Which short drama apps use AI? Two say so in their store copy: VibeShort ("Discover AI-generated tales with cinematic visuals") and StardustTV ("Original Dramas Powered by AI"). ReelShort labels titles one by one on its drama pages; 8 of the 20 chart titles we checked carry its AI-generated label.
