Bar chart of the cost to finish 13 ReelShort dramas, from $14.97 for Demigod Under Oath to $39.96 for The Heiress Strikes Back

Finishing one of 13 ReelShort chart dramas costs $14.97 to $39.96 in coins, by our math. The cost to finish a short drama depends far more on how many episodes are locked than on the coin price. So the useful decision is which drama to start, not which coin pack to buy.

TL;DR: ReelShort's coin guide says a standard episode usually costs 60 coins and 500 coins cost $4.99. Multiply by each drama's locked episodes and buy the cheapest pack mix: 13 chart titles come to $14.97 to $39.96, more than half of them $24.97 or less. ReelShort is the only app we found that publishes the price, so it is the only one we can total. Checked Oct 18, 2026.

As of Oct 18, 2026: episode counts and prices as ReelShort listed them that day. Apps change both; we recheck and log changes below.

Verdict: Pick a drama with 30 or fewer locked episodes if you plan to pay; on ReelShort that finishes for about $15. Use the free episodes to decide. Skip long dramas unless you are sure: The Heiress Strikes Back, 75 locked episodes, costs $39.96 to finish.

Key Takeaways

  • Price per episode: 60 coins on ReelShort, the only app that publishes it.
  • Range: $14.97 to $39.96 for 13 chart dramas, cheapest pack mix (our math).
  • Locked episodes decide it: the $39.96 drama has 75 locked episodes; the $14.97 ones have 24 and 25.
  • Bigger packs give more coins per dollar, up to 125 on the $29.99 pack, but only pay off if you use them.
  • Free episodes vary: 1 to 16 on the chart we read, against "8 to 13" in ReelShort's guide.

Overview: why only ReelShort can be priced

A total needs two official numbers: coins per episode and the price of coins. ReelShort publishes both in its coin guide. DramaBox, ShortMax and GoodShort printed neither on the drama pages we read; their App Store listings name items such as "Membership" (DramaBox), "Weekly Pass Pro" (ShortMax) or "500 Coins" (GoodShort), not what an episode costs. Our apps compared guide shows which app publishes what.

One outside estimate exists. An op-ed on Geek Vibes Nation, citing the GASP dataset, says "finishing a typical ReelShort drama with coins costs about $28". That is GASP's figure, not ours. The middle of our 13 titles sits at about $25.

How the math works

Take The Heiress Strikes Back. Its page says it has 81 episodes and "Premium episodes begin at episode 7", so 75 are locked. At 60 coins each that is 4,500 coins.

  1. Count the locked episodes: total episodes minus the free ones on the drama page.
  2. Multiply by 60 coins: the coin guide's price for a standard episode.
  3. Buy the cheapest mix of packs that covers it: for 4,500 coins, four $9.99 packs (1,150 each) make 4,600 coins for $39.96, cheaper than the $29.99 pack plus anything on top.

ReelShort's guide makes the same kind of estimate itself: "Unlocking 50 episodes could run close to $30." Our math agrees: 50 episodes are 3,000 coins, six $4.99 packs, $29.94.

Bar chart of coins per dollar on ReelShort's four coin packs, from 100 on the $4.99 pack to 125 on the $29.99 pack Chart: ShortDramaDesk, from ReelShort's coin guide, Oct 18.

The packs, as the coin guide lists them: $4.99 for 500 coins, $9.99 for 1,000 plus 150 bonus, $14.99 for 1,500 plus 300, $29.99 for 3,000 plus 750. The guide adds that "Pricing and bonus amounts are subject to change based on regional pricing and promotional events."

The table leaves out the seven ReelShort chart titles that we mark Mature (17+) from the tags on their own pages; one of them also has no published paywall. Sorted the same way, it is our cheapest to finish list.

Stacked bars of free and locked episodes for the same 13 ReelShort dramas, The Heiress Strikes Back longest with 75 locked Chart: ShortDramaDesk, from ReelShort's drama pages, Oct 18.

Desk note: The most expensive drama here costs 2.7 times the cheapest, while the coin price never changes. The Heiress Strikes Back has 75 locked episodes, Demigod Under Oath has 24. Episode count is the price tag.

Cheap is not always short. The Arena has 48 episodes but only 2 free, so it costs as much as You Fired A Tech Genius with 59 episodes and 15 free. Two free episodes, a $24.97 bill: that is a short trial.

The free part is not what the guide says

ReelShort's coin guide says "Typically, the first 8 to 13 episodes of most series are completely free to watch." We checked 19 chart titles with a published paywall.

Eight of the 19 sit inside 8 to 13. Eight give fewer, down to a single free episode on My Strongest Master Likes Acting Weak. Three give more, up to 16 on Demigod Under Oath. Read the line on the drama page before you count on a free trial.

Coins vs the weekly charge

ReelShort's App Store listing shows a $19.99 "Subscription" next to its coin packs. The listing does not say what period it covers or what it unlocks, so we cannot compare it with coins. The GASP op-ed quotes a $14.99 weekly pass; we found no official ReelShort page with that price.

What we can say: paid coins keep. ReelShort's guide says "Paid coins never expire", while free reward coins "usually come with a time limit". A weekly charge renews until you cancel it in your phone's subscription settings.

What viewers say

Recent App Store and Reddit posts land on the same two points: the paywall comes fast, and the charges repeat.

  • ReelShort, App Store, Oct 15, one star: "Each episode jumps and feels like it skips parts of the series only to be hit with a pay wall like all the rest." (App Store)
  • DramaBox, App Store, Oct 16, one star: "it will take you a week or more to earn enough coins to watch a full short." (App Store)
  • On r/DramaBox, December 2024: "I joined the subscription and promptly realized you don't actually get much access at all. Just a minimal amount of coins." (Reddit)

Our take

Use the free episodes to choose, then pay only for dramas with 30 or fewer locked episodes. On ReelShort's own prices, the three titles with 24 to 30 locked episodes finish for about $15. The Heiress Strikes Back's 75 locked episodes cost $39.96. If you already know you will pay for several dramas, the $29.99 pack gives the most coins per dollar. We recheck the coin guide and these 13 pages every 30 days.

What we don't know yet

  • What ReelShort's $19.99 App Store "Subscription" covers and for how long.
  • Coins per episode on DramaBox, ShortMax and GoodShort.
  • Whether some ReelShort episodes cost more than the "standard" 60 coins; the guide says "usually".

How we checked this

On Oct 18, 2026 we read ReelShort's coin guide by hand. Each drama's episode count and "Premium episodes begin at episode N" line was copied from its page on reelshort.com the same day, one page at a time by hand (ReelShort's terms forbid automated access), into our catalog. Totals are our arithmetic: locked episodes times 60 coins, covered by the cheapest mix of the four listed packs. We did not buy coins.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to finish a ReelShort drama? Between $14.97 and $39.96 for the 13 ReelShort chart dramas we priced on Oct 18, using ReelShort's own figure of 60 coins a standard episode and the cheapest mix of its coin packs. Seven of them came in at $24.97 or less.

How many coins is one ReelShort episode? 60 coins. ReelShort's coin guide says "Once the paywall appears, a standard episode usually costs 60 coins." With 500 coins for $4.99, that is roughly $0.60 an episode on the smallest pack, as the guide itself puts it.

Which ReelShort coin pack is the best value? The $29.99 pack: 3,000 coins plus 750 bonus, or 125 coins per dollar, against 100 per dollar on the $4.99 pack. But the biggest pack is only cheapest if you need most of its coins; for 1,440 coins, three $4.99 packs ($14.97) beat one $14.99 pack.

Do ReelShort coins expire? Paid coins do not. ReelShort's coin guide says "Paid coins never expire." Free reward coins from check-ins and ads "usually come with a time limit", so spend those first.

How much does it cost to finish a DramaBox or ShortMax drama? We cannot say. On the DramaBox and ShortMax drama pages we read, neither app printed coins per episode, so there is no official number to multiply. Their App Store listings show items from $4.99 (DramaBox) and $3.49 (ShortMax), not what an episode costs.
