Is NetShort Free? 9 Free Episodes, Then Coins or VIP
Is NetShort free? To start: a median of 9 free episodes per drama. After that, coins, ads or a Weekly VIP pass, and NetShort publishes no coin price.

NetShort is free to start and not free to finish, so the honest reply to "is NetShort free" is "for about 9 episodes". Of the 2,144 NetShort listings we read with a free count, that is the median; after that, NetShort's own FAQ says episodes "may need coins, a subscription, ads, or VIP". So the decision is how you pay for the rest, and NetShort does not print a coin price for any of it.
TL;DR: Is NetShort free? For the first 9 episodes of a typical drama, yes. The median NetShort story runs 37 episodes. The App Store lists Weekly VIP at $5.99 to $29.99, renewing until you cancel; Google Play lists purchases from $0.49 to $299.99 per item. NetShort publishes no coin price per episode, so no cost to finish. Coin sales are final under its terms. Counts read Oct 18 to 27, prices Oct 25, 2026.
As of Oct 28, 2026: free-episode counts as our NetShort catalog read them Oct 18 to 27; prices as the stores listed them on Oct 25. Apps change both; we recheck and log changes below.
Is NetShort free? (quick answer)
Partly. NetShort is free to download, and most dramas give away their opening episodes: a median of 9 in our catalog. NetShort's FAQ puts it plainly: "A lot of episodes are free to start." After that, you watch ads, spend coins, or pay for VIP.
Key Takeaways

- No coin price per episode: NetShort's pages and terms give none.
- Coin sales are final, "except as determined by" NetShort, per its user agreement.

Overview: what NetShort gives away, and what it sells
NetShort, sold by NETSTORY PTE. LTD., is a free download on the App Store. Its App Store and Google Play listings carry the same line: "Some content and features may require VIP access or in-app purchases." Google Play adds "Contains ads".
NetShort names four ways past a locked episode. Its FAQ: "Early episodes on many series are unlocked at no cost; later ones may need coins, a subscription, ads, or VIP." Its home page promises "multiple ways to earn coins to unlock paid episodes", without listing them.
VIP buys more than episodes. The store listings name "Ad-free viewing where available" as a perk, and the FAQ says "HD playback is available for VIP members". Our NetShort app page keeps its store ratings and purchase rows.
Analysis: how many NetShort episodes are free
We read the episode lists of NetShort dramas through our catalog import, Oct 18 to 27. Of 4,568 NetShort listings, 245 are 17+ and left out. Of the rest, 2,144 had a free count, and their median was 9 free episodes.
Chart: ShortDramaDesk, from our NetShort catalog, read Oct 18 to 27.
The spread is narrow. 1,488 listings, more than two in three, give 7 to 10 free; 148 give 5 or fewer, and 163 give 12 or more. The median NetShort story runs 37 episodes, and the median free share across those titles is 22%: about a fifth of the story.
Desk note: Free counts on NetShort cluster tightly: 10 free is the single most common count, on 400 listings, and 8 and 9 follow with 382 and 364. A NetShort drama that gives 12 or more is one of only 163. For The Dragon's Silly Captive, the NetShort drama with the most search impressions on this site, it is 8 of 40.

What NetShort sells: Weekly VIP, coins, one-time purchases
Weekly VIP. On Oct 18 the App Store's purchase list showed "Weekly VIP" at four prices: $5.99, $19.99, $24.99 and $29.99. On Oct 25 it showed eight Weekly VIP rows at the same four prices. Four prices for one name, and the list does not say which one you will see.
One-time purchases. Both days the list also showed "One-time Purchase" rows at $9.99 and $19.99, with no coin amounts named.
Google Play's range. Google Play lists in-app purchases at "$0.49 - $299.99 per item". That spans every item NetShort sells there, not one pack.
Table: ShortDramaDesk, from NetShort's App Store purchase list (Oct 18 and 25) and Google Play listing (Oct 25).
Coins. NetShort calls its currency "Gold Coin" in an App Store update note of Oct 19: "Optimized/Optimised the Gold Coin feature for easier unlocking of exciting content." No NetShort page we read says how many coins an episode takes. Without that number, a cost to finish is guesswork, and we do not guess.
What NetShort's terms say about paying
Coins are not refundable by default. NetShort's user agreement says "all sales of Virtual Currency and Virtual Goods are final and, except as determined by NETSTORY PTE.LTD. in its sole and absolute discretion, non-refundable."
Subscriptions follow the same rule. The agreement calls subscription payments "final and non-refundable, except where specified under these Terms of Use", and adds that "pricing and availability of subscriptions … are subject to change at any time."
VIP renews unless you stop it. NetShort's membership agreement says: "If not canceled, it will be considered that you agree to NetShort attempting to charge you for the next billing period". Its site tells subscribers to "turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours in advance." A plan bought through Apple or Google is cancelled in that store's subscription list.

What viewers say
App Store reviewers of NetShort split on ads and coins. One four-star review from Oct 23: "I enjoy the short stories, but the coin cost is expensive …" A one-star review a day earlier: "It takes two adds over 5 minutes to watch a 3 minute video." (App Store)
A five-star review on Oct 23 sees it the other way: "Great app & you get over 1000 coins for each ad you watch." We cannot check that number; NetShort publishes none. (App Store)
Our take
Stick to free on NetShort until a drama hooks you, then price a single Weekly VIP before buying coins. The median drama gives 9 free episodes of 37, and NetShort gives no coin price, so coins cannot be compared. A week has a price you can see: $5.99 to $29.99 on the App Store's list, and it renews until you turn it off. Coins are final sales under NetShort's terms, so buy small.
What we don't know yet
- How many coins a NetShort episode costs: no NetShort page we read says.
- Which Weekly VIP price a given account sees, and why there are four: the store lists them without explanation.
- How many coins an ad or a check-in pays: NetShort's home page mentions ways to earn coins but lists no amounts.
- Whether coins expire: no NetShort page we read says.
How we checked this
On Oct 25, 2026 we read NetShort's home page, FAQ, user agreement and membership agreement, one NetShort drama page, the Google Play listing and the App Store page, one request each. Purchase rows are from the App Store page on Oct 18 and Oct 25. Free counts come from our NetShort catalog import, Oct 18 to 27, counted again on Oct 28. Reviews are from Apple's public review feed. We did not buy coins or VIP. Last reviewed Oct 28.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is NetShort free? Free to download and free to start, not free to finish. Of the 2,144 NetShort listings we read with a free count, the median gives 9 free episodes. NetShort's FAQ says later episodes "may need coins, a subscription, ads, or VIP".
How many episodes are free on NetShort? Usually 7 to 10. That range covers 1,488 of the 2,144 NetShort listings in our catalog with a free count, more than two in three; the median is 9. The NetShort story itself has a median of 37 episodes.
How much does NetShort VIP cost? On Oct 18 and Oct 25 the App Store listed "Weekly VIP" at $5.99, $19.99, $24.99 and $29.99, plus "One-time Purchase" rows at $9.99 and $19.99. NetShort's terms say subscription prices are "subject to change at any time".
How many coins is a NetShort episode? NetShort does not say. Its drama pages, FAQ and terms give no coin price per episode, and its App Store purchase rows do not name coin amounts. So we cannot give a cost to finish a NetShort drama.
Can I get a refund for NetShort coins or VIP? Not by default. NetShort's user agreement says sales of virtual currency are "final and, except as determined by NETSTORY PTE.LTD. in its sole and absolute discretion, non-refundable", and subscription payments are final too.
Can I watch NetShort with ads instead of paying? Ads are one of the routes NetShort's FAQ names for later episodes, next to coins, a subscription and VIP. Google Play marks the app "Contains ads". NetShort does not publish how many ads an episode takes.
