Count Elliott Gray returns to Grayburg with Olivia Frost, and his parents praise her. Elliott admits he wed Freya only for her title and asks her to raise his children with Olivia. When the Grays push her to bear an heir, Freya demands a divorce. Freya slaps Elliott in defense of her maid Anna, whom Olivia had struck. At the palace, Freya asks the king only for a divorce and turns down his plan to punish the pair. Freya exposes that the Grays lived on her dowry, and Lady Gray tries to seize seventy percent of her wealth. Under Olivia's influence, Elliott announces he will take half of Freya's property.
