My Family’s Betrayal

On the day of the narrator's mate-bonding ceremony, the parents bring the mate home and announce that the marking will be with someone else. They explain that the sister was poisoned by wolfsbane, that no cure exists, and that she is dying and wants David to be hers instead. The narrator is pressed to be kind and help, while David promises it is only for show and that after the sister dies, the narrator and David will still belong to each other. The narrator refuses, so the parents force a potion on the narrator that blocks the mind link, tie the narrator up, and throw the narrator into the silver mine behind the family villa. They promise to untie the narrator once the ceremony goes smoothly. Soon after they leave, a vicious rogue wolf attacks, and the narrator is killed after endless torment. Only when the body starts to decay do the parents recall that the narrator was left in the mine.
