Twin Blossoms in Darkness

The narrator and her sister are reborn on the morning they were due to be handed to the Demons as sacrificial offerings. Back in their earlier life, their husbands, two gods, rushed in to rescue them. In that rescue, the Demons seized the God of Water's young apprentice instead, and the apprentice was flayed, had her bones pulled out, and died. The gods grew to resent the sisters and spread word that they were the Twin Blossoms of Ruin, fated to bring the world down. The sisters' souls were wiped out. Now they open their eyes at the instant the Demons first seize them, and they tell the Demons to take them along. The gods depart with the apprentice, safe and relieved. Only afterward do they grasp their error, and regret consumes them.
