Claire Serrano is a busy CEO who always makes time for her daughter, Esther. Her husband, Adrian, spends his time with his high school sweetheart, Stacy, and her son, Lucas, and neglects Esther. Adrian was supposed to pick Esther up from kindergarten, but he leaves her locked in his car under the blazing summer sun. The car heats past 116 degrees Fahrenheit, and Esther nearly faints. She calls her father for help, but he hangs up without listening. Before her tablet dies, she reaches her mother, who searches with coworkers and drives to the kindergarten and Adrian's house. When Adrian's mother, Amanda, defends her son and calls Esther worthless, Claire slaps her. Claire tries to smash the car windows, but strangers claim the girl inside is their daughter, and Claire ends up bloodied. Her coworkers find security footage that exposes Adrian's affair. Esther does not survive. Too late to win Claire back, Adrian takes his own life, and Stacy dies as well.
