My So-Called Family

A little over a month pregnant, the narrator is looking forward to a wedding until the fiancé teams up with the narrator's parents and brothers. They put the narrator on trial at the Court of Justice and fabricate charge after charge, hoping for a death sentence under the law. If the judge finds the narrator guilty, the sentence is death on the spot. Once the narrator is dead, the corneas would go to an adopted sister, and the family would claim all of the narrator's assets and insurance. Betrayed by the fiancé and then by the family, the narrator fights back. The narrator asks for advanced medical technology that can extract the memories and project them on a large screen, so the verdict rests with the judge and the public jurors, who number in the hundreds. As everyone smugly expects victory, the memories reveal the truth and move the entire courtroom to tears.
