Lena Mercer has a degree in bioengineering but no job, until an underground lab offers her good money to feed Subject Zero. He is an S-class merman who has been held there for 17 years and has killed 47 researchers in that time. Lena is relaxed and not at all afraid: she brings him instant noodles, talks to him every day, and the dreaded monster turns into a clingy, jealous companion who trusts only her.
